Friends became foes this morning at Murt Scott Park in glorious sunshine, as our two U12 teams clashed in the 1st round of the cup.
Playing with the breeze in 1st half, the White team dominated possession and were well worth their 4 goal lead at the half. The goals came by way of 2 great long range strikes from Ryan Quilter, with Jack Kelly and Sean O'Leary Griffin also finding the net. The Blue team never gave in and fought well throughout and began to see more of the ball in the second half. Killian O'Sullivan, Daithi Allen, Emma Harrington and Alex Finn showed good work in possession and caused the White defence some trouble. Then on 45 mins they were rewarded, when a free kick from the left hand side was swung in by Adam Fleming with pin point accuracy over the Ballyhar White defence where Alex Finn got just enough of a touch to help it into the net.
The Blues created a number of further chances with Fionn Clifford unlucky to hit the post from close range, but it was the Whites who ended the scoring when Dylan Fitzgerald finished off a well worked team goal after some lovely build up play. It was a good spectacle all round as the many spectators in attendance will agree with both teams accounting for themselves very well.
Along with goalscorers for the Whites, Gearoid Moynihan and Ryan Vickers deserve a mention. For the Blues, Emma Harrington, Killian O'Sullivan, Adam Fleming and Noah Browne all worked tirelessly. A special mention today for Brandon O'Sullivan who lined out and did himself, his family and teammates proud following a tough week.
Man of the match was Fionn Clifford, who was exceptional in the Blue defence.
