Our U12 girls had a 2-2 draw against Tralee Dynamos on Saturday afternoon in Rusheen.
It was a classic game of two halves with the wind playing a factor yet again in the game.
Ballyhar dominated the first half with great pressure being applied to the visitors from Tralee. Dogged midfield play from Leanne Collins and Emma O'Callaghan kept winning the ball back and by funnelling everything through Lucy Wynne and Niamh O'Sullivan Ballyhar looked dangerous going forward. Ballyhar went in at half time with a deserved 2-0 lead with the goals coming from Emma O'Callaghan and Lucy Wynne. It could have been even better for Ballyhar who also had two goals correctly chalked off for offside which would have put the game to bed, but alas it was not to be.
Our defence of Faye O'Brien, Anna Fitzgerald and Seodin Scanlan dealt with everything Tralee threw at them with Kate O'Connor coming in and playing well at full back.
However, in the second half, Tralee had the wind behind them and the tables turned fairly quickly scoring 2 early goals to bring the score level. But the Ballyhar fighting spirit kicked in again and the girls got back on top for the final 10 minutes but just couldn’t convert the chances that came their way.
Overall it was another a great performance from the girls, who were yet again unlucky not to come away with all 3 points in the end.
Best for Ballyhar: Niamh O'Sullivan who had 2 goals disallowed, Anna Fitzgerald who was solid in defence and player of the match Emma O'Callaghan who gave up the goalkeeper gloves for first try at midfield and deserves huge praise.
