On a beautiful evening in Murt Scott Park, the Ballyhar girls gave the performance of their season. With the pitch in immaculate condition, Ballyhar started strongly putting huge pressure on the MEK midfield and defence straight from the off. The high intensity style of the Ballyhar girls was giving MEK no time on the ball and it didn’t take long for the deadly Lucy Wynne to break the deadlock. A trademark mazy dribble into the box and then side footing neatly into the net. This was quickly followed by a second from Niamh O'Sullivan who’s shot nestled nicely in the side netting giving the MEK keeper no chance. The midfield of Leah Cooper, Grace O'Sullivan and Eimear Spring ran themselves into the ground and dominated the middle of the park. Following a few substitutions Maisy O'Sullivan, Ruby O'Connor and Ella Regan continued to win the battle for the middle of the park. Anna Fitzgerald, Seoidin Scanlon and Aoibhinn Daly didn’t put a foot wrong in defence, meaning Emma O'Callaghan had a quiet evening in goal making only one or two saves all game. Ballyhar continued to move the ball well and showed great improvement in their ball retention skills, taking on defenders at every chance. H/T 2-0
Shortly after the second half got underway Ballyhar added a 3rd. Following a goalmouth scramble the ball rebounded to Lucy Wynne who toe poked the ball home. Ballyhar were flying at this stage and Leanne Collins, Kate O'Connor and Faye O'Brien came on to give the defence a refresh and held out any attempts from the MEK attackers. Emily O'Callaghan, Olivia Prenderville and Emily O'Neill also came on to keep the pressure on MEK. Following yet another mesmerising dribble from the on fire Lucy Wynne she slotted home her hat trick and Ballyhar’s 4th of the game. The final goal of the evening came from the spot when a Lucy Wynne run into the box resulted in a late tackle and the referee had no choice but to point to the spot. Lucy stepped up confidently and blasted to the top corner.
It was a great win for the Ballyhar girls and there's huge excitement for the team to reach a final in their maiden season. A special mention to our close neighbours and friends in MEK for a great game.
