U12 Shield Rd1: Ferry Rangers 3 Ballyhar B 1

Our U12 B team made the long journey to Tarbert to face Ferry Rangers in the 1st round of the Shield, and unfortunately, it didn't go our way.

After a scrappy start on a heavy pitch, Rangers got the upper hand, making the most of the wind, they put the Ballyhar defence under early pressure. The opening goal of the game came from a mistake in midfield when the ball was given away, and their dangerous No.9 went down the left and shot across keeper Adam Quirke into the bottom corner. 10 mins later, it was 2 nil to Rangers just as the lads started to get into the game. Daniel Ryan and Elliot Lyne were pushing hard to create a breakthrough, but the Rangers defence was well marshalled. While Eoin Cremin and Aaron Looney were busy in defence. The best chance of the half fell to Brendan Flynn, who was unlucky to not score. H/T 2-0

With the wind at their backs, Ballyhar pushed for a breakthrough with Adam Quirke launching balls forward and Charlie Curran doing well down the right wing. It was from Currans right wing that Ballyhar got on the scoresheet, when he played a clever ball inside to Daniel Ryan, who them fed Elliot Lyne, who's shot his a Rangers hand in the box, and a penalty was given. Ryan stepped up and smashed it into the bottom corner to make it 2-1. The game was in the balance, and Rangers always looked dangerous, so with Ballyhar pushing forward for an equaliser the counter was always a threat. And that materialised on 48 mins when Rangers scored a 3rd decisive goal. Try as they might Ballyhar couldn't get another goal with Ciaran Ferris coming closest from a corner.

Thanks to our hosts Ferry Rangers for a competitive game and were the bigger and stronger side on the day. Geat credit to our lads who gave it everything and can be proud of their efforts.
