U14 Division 1: Ballyhar 1 - Castleisland 1

U14 Division 1: Ballyhar 1 - Castleisland 1

The spoils were shared at Murt Scott Park on Saturday afternoon as the High flying visitors were well and truly grounded by a great team effort by our lads.

Castleisland started with the wind at their backs in the 1st half as Ballyhar set up to defend against the league leaders. The visitors had threats coming down both wings early on but the back 4 held strong led by the outstanding Marcus Clifford in the centre. Eoin O'Mahony in goals was also kept busy keeping out a few efforts that managed to get through with every man digging in and playing their part. Nevan Lyne got the start at left back and more than held his own against a rampaging full back in the 1st half with Tom Costelloe and Ross Lally disrupting play in the middle to make sure the score stayed 0-0 at halftime.

Ballyhar immediately tried to utilise the wind better in the 2nd half but unfortunately Castleisland were the ones to break the deadlock. Ballyhar gave away a free kick just 5 mins into the 2nd half which was floated into the box and when Ballyhar failed to clear it Castleisland poked it home. The lads head didn't drop though, they kept their shape and began to get back into the game.

Anthony Cremin and John Henderson got more and more into the game causing trouble on a number of occasions. Then on 52 mins the ball was played down the right wing to Henderson who beat the defender and struck a shot from just outside the box which beat the keeper but not the post... yet thankfully still ended up in the back of the net with the rebound hitting the back of the keepers head. It was well deserved for the home side and could have gotten even better when 5 mins later another ball over the top found Jim O'Dowd and Henderson both running through on the keeper who smothered the ball at the feet of O'Dowd to make sure the left with a point.

Ballyhar worked tirelessly through out and were the 1st team to take points off a very good Castleisland team. Best for Ballyhar were Tom Costelloe, Eoin O'Mahony, and man of the match Marcus Clifford.
