U14 National Cup Rd4: Pike Rovers 4 - Ballyhar 0

Our U14A team travelled to Limerick to face a strong Pike Rovers team in the 4th round of National Cup. Unfortunately, against a strong team like Pike, who were finalists last year, a good start was what was required. But the lads were caught cold within the first seconds, conceeding after good work down the left by Pike, found the ball falling to their striker, who slotted home well. The lads were only getting into the game and settling when a mistake at the back led to the concession of a penalty. That was smashed home excellently by the Pike midfielder to make it 2-0 inside 10mins. Ballyhar battled bravely, forcing a number of corners, however, the home defence stood firm. Before half time, a further goal was conceeded, when a looping deflection into the box held up in the wind, and a Pike player, running onto it headed it over Dan Duggan in goals  as he came to challenge. Half time 3:0

A number of changes were made at half time, as Ballyhar set out to try and get back into the game. But the home side were quick to counter and caught us on the break, and scored their final goal 10 minutes into the second half. Ballyhar kept trying to the very end, but it wasn't their day as theor great cup run came to an end.

Congrats to Pike Rovers, and thanks for the hospitality after the game. We wish them well in the next round. Best for Ballyhar on a disappointing day were Jack Kelly, Ryan Quilter, Adam Fleming, Calum Templeman and Sean Griffin O Leary.
