On a crisp bright morning in Ballyhar, we hosted Mastergeeha in a competitive and sporting game. The final result slightly flattering the hosts.
Both teams started brightly and shared chances and possession, with Mastergeeha slightly shading it, generating a number of corners. These were well defended in goal with Daniel Duggan commanding his area.
It was Ballyhar who went ahead from a corner. The cross was put in by Ryan Vickers, and it broke to Gearoid Moynihan, who finished well from inside the box.
Ballyhar went in 1:0 up at half time.
Second half and Mastergeeha continued to threaten. Ballyhar defended excellently throughout the game with the back 4 of Brendàn, Jamie, Dàire and Adam excellent throughout. They were assisted well by Gearoid Moynihan and Jack Kelly, who were both industrious throughout the game.
Ballyhar were rewarded again 15 minutes into the second half when a well worked move down the right involving Dylan Fitzgerald and Ryan Quilter was finished to the net by Jamie Murphy.
Mastergeeha pushed on and created a number of chances, but the Ballyhar goal remained intact. With Mastergeeha pushing on, space was left at the back, and a well worked move involving Ryan Vickers and Ryan Quilter created a chance for Alex Finn to finish well. Late on a free from Ryan Quilter was only parried by the Mastergeeha goalie and an excellent follow up by Alex Finn saw him get his second on the day, finishing well to the Mastergeeha net.
This was an excellent team performance. It was impossible to select one man of the match. It was a team performance.
Thanks to ref Adrian Quirke and Mastergeeha for a sporting game.
