Controlling the game from start to finish, Ballyhar put in one of their best attacking displays of the season to grab an away win in the Shield today. With super performances all over the field, Ballyhar settled well and got the opening goal through great determination and pressure from Anthony Cremin. Chasing a long ball over the top and looking like chasing a lost cause, Cremin got just rewards for his perservance when he managed to get a touch on the ball just as the keeper was about to pick it up, rounded him and rolled it into the net. John Henderson pulled all the strings in midfield for Ballyhar with the outstanding Jim O'Dowd putting in a fantastic shift and was very unlucky not to get on the score sheet today following numerous breaks down the right where he linked up well with Davin Quilter. Jonathon Galvin anchored the midfield superbly with Marcus Clifford and Jamie Quirke solid as usual at the back to repel any Mastergeeha attacks. The 2nd goal of the game came just before halftime as again the Ballyhar pressure paid dividends as Henderson chased the defender down and making him play the ball past his keeper and into his own net. H/T 0-2
The 2nd half began with more great play from Ballyhar who were moving the ball around excellently. Within 5 mins of the restart it was 3 nil as Davin Quilter found himself at the back post helping to guide a rebound off the crossbar and post into the net from close range. The final Ballyhar goal came from the right boot of Cremin who struck a sweet shot from outside the box after more great work from Henderson. Mastergeeha kept fighting away and made sure they got on the score sheet in the final few minutes with a well struck Free kick from the left finding the roof of the net.
But it's Ballyhar that progress to the 1/4 finals of the Shield following a great team win. Best for Ballyhar were John Henderson, Jim O'Dowd and Jonathon Galvin.
