In their final league game, the seniors put in an excellent performance against table topping St Brendan' Park at Christy Leahy Park.
All the squad played with great spirit and maybe if a Micheal Fitzgerald shot or Michael O'Sullivan header had been a bit more accurate, a draw may have been on the cards. All three goals came in the first half with Park taking the lead on 35 minutes when a mistimed tackle allowed Park to score from a tight angle. Declan O'Connor was denied a definite penalty for Ballyhar but a few moments later a Michael O'Sullivan shot was handled in the box and this time the referee pointed to the spot. John Power took the responsibility and drilled is shot straight down the centre to tie up the game approaching the break 1-1. Unfortunately the home team retook the lead right on the stroke of half time, when a long range effort deceived the Ballyhar defence & the other wise excellent Trevor O'Shea in the Ballyhar goal. H/T 2-1
The 2nd half saw both teams find periods of dominance with youth players Fitzgerald & O'Sullivan both going very close to getting the equaliser. Diarmuid Brosnan, Robert Kelly & Jordan O'Connor brought freshness from the bench in the last 25 minutes. The back four of Power ,O'Shea, Cronin & Fitzgerald were solid, with Niall Donohoe & the O'Connor brothers always in the thick of the action, and Shane O'Sullivan holding the ball well up front. F/T 2-1
Overall Ballyhar can be proud of their efforts over the 90 minutes in a game that was well refereed by John Ross. Best of luck to St Brendans Park in their league run in, which sees 4 teams competing for the 2 promotion spots.
