U12 Boys Division 1: Ballyhar 2 - Killarney Athletic B 1

U12 Boys Division 1: Ballyhar 2 - Killarney Athletic B 1

On an cold wintry morning it was a battle  between third and fourth in the U12 Division 1, with the home side Ballyhar taking the points in a well deserved win.

As expected, the opening exchanges were end to end then Ballyhar turned the screw and had chance after chance, with the best a great effort under pressure from Sean Evans who saw his shot roll just wide of the Atlantic post. Sean had also drawn some fine saves from a very in form Athletic Keeper. Indeed Fabian Mrotek also came close for Ballyhar with his effort being cleared off the line. At this stage, Ballyhar were wondering was it going to be their day,  having so much pressure and chances on The Athletic goal and still scoreless. Along with an injury sustained to Paddy Hurley, nothing appeared to be going Ballyhars way.
Indeed as Ballyhar had another fruitless attack on the Athletic goal, the visitors had a huge counter attack and managed to score against the run of play and stun Ballyhar. Half Time 0-1

The second half saw Ballyhar continue attacking Athletic and eventually got their reward. Jack Sheehy ran down the wing and put in a perfect cross which Jack Cooper rose and headed it past the diving Athletic keeper and into the net.1-1 and it was game on. Marcus O'Sullivan and Dermot Nealon were both doing well in this game for Ballyhar and Gavin Sheehan was having a fine game when called upon. It was busy day in midfield for Brian Evans also and this was to be the area of the pitch where the battles were won. It was a real tight affair but something had to give, and thankfully it came from a great individual goal by Jack Sheehy, who hooked the ball over his head and then volleying past the Athletic keeper to make it 2-1.
To their credit, Athletic weren't going down without a fight and put more pressure on Ballyhar, but the lads showed real determination to hold on and take all three points.
