On a stunning sunny morning in Ballyhar our under 12 A team proved every bit as hot as the weather, to finish the season in style with a home victory that guarantees them a 2nd place finish.
Although badly hit by injuries, Ballyhar started strong when Jack Sheehy went on a fantastic run down the line shooting narrowly wide with Sean Evans also going close. Camp attacked Ballyhar up the middle of the pitch in numbers and took the lead against the run of play. Straight away Ballyhar struck back when a corner from Jack Sheehy found it's way to Fabian Mrotek who tucked it away to make it 1-1.
Within minutes Ballyhar forced another corner and again Mrotek was on the end of it to make it 2-1 to the home side. Ballyhar were playing the ball around very well now and increased their lead when a fine cross by Mrotek was met by Jack Cooper who tucked away his first to make it 3-1. Ballyhar were surging forward in waves, and yet another corner brought a fourth goal from Dermot Nealon to give Ballyhar a 4-1 advantage. Next came the goal of the day came from Jack Cooper, who volleyed home from distance beyond the Camp goalkeeper. And just before the short whistle, Nealon scored his second of the game to make it a very convincing 6-1 at half time.
The second half was a different game with Ballyhar taking their foot off the gas, none the less they had another goal in them when Cooper completed his hat-trick after the keeper parried a fine effort from Jack Sheehy 7-1.
Ballyhar goalkeeper Gavin Sheehan was called upon more in the second half and was well able for whatever Camp threw at him. The full backs of Cole Buckley and Marcus O'Sullivan were strong in defence but also instrumental in getting attacks going from the back. Dermot Nealon had a fantastic game scoring two from centre half and strong in defence. Tiernan Scanlon had another good game in a sweeper role and was busy in defence and attack. Fabian Mrotek again had a fine match and added another two goals. Micheál Griffin and Diarmuid Sheehy fitted in very well into the side and helped the cause no end.
Man of the match this week would be hat-trick hero Jack Cooper closely followed by Dermot Nealon and Fabian Mrotek.
We would like to thank Camp for this very entertaining fixture and wish them well.
We would also like to take this opportunity to sympathise with Alan, Edel, Alex and our squad member Noah Finn, on the passing of Teresa Finn. May She Rest In Peace.
