It was a fantastic day for our U12 White team at Celtic Park in Killarney as they finished off a very strong league campaign with the Division 1 South Title following a tough battle with MEK today.
It was a tense first half with both sides failing to create many clear cut chances as both defences stood strong to any attacks. Daire Cornally was outstanding in the centre of defense for Ballyhar all game with Sean O'Leary Griffin and Jack Kelly busy in midfield. MEK mustered the only real 1st half threat with a free kick on the left hand side struck well and was heading for the top corner until Daniel Duggan got his hand to it and pushed it out for a corner. H/T 0-0
Changes at the break began to turn the tide in Ballyhar's favor. Ryan Quilter & Adam Fleming started to link up well with Alex Finn and chances began to come. The MEK defence stood firm until the final 10 mins and to be fair went behind in cruel fashion. Their best defender tried to clear a cross from the right by Adam Fleming, only to miskick it and watch the ball trickle into the back of his own net. Still it was deserved for Ballyhar who had put them under constant pressure all half.
Then with 5 mins remaining Ballyhar put the game beyond doubt following a great move down the left. Quilter fed Finn on the wing who played the perfect ball onto Kelly who finished well into the bottom corner. The final whistle was met with jubilations from Ballyhar and their supporters when captain Ryan Quilter lifted the trophy.
Great credit must be given to a very talented MEK side who were the only team all season to inflict defeat on them. The whole league wasn't just won today tho, with massive congratulations going to every player and their coaches.
