Played on a very tight Astro due to Camp pitch being deemed unplayable, the Ballyhar girls kept up their recent good form with a well deserved win on Saturday.
In a hectic and frantic game due to the reduced pitch size, nobody had any time on the ball which meant this was not a spectacle for the purists! The Ballyhar girls lined out with Captain for the day Emma O'Callaghan in goal who had little to deal with but who made some good saves when called upon. A back three of the ever improving Kate O Connor, Anna FitzGerald and the hard tackling Emily O Callaghan. The midfield was made up of Player of the game Faye O Brien, Maisy O Sullivan and Joanne Cronin. With long range specialist Niamh O Sullivan and goal machine Lucy Wynne up front. Subs Maria Scanlon and Sophie O Brien ( playing up ) came on to refresh the tiring legs in midfield and played a vital role in keeping the high press going throughout the game.
With a lot of over and back it wasn’t until late in the second half that Ballyhar found a way to break down the Camp defence. Lucy Wynne poking home a very scrappy goal after a goal mouth scramble. This was followed up with several mazy dribbles and close calls. Wynne eventually slotted a second goal home after beating two defenders and placing it into the bottom right hand corner after a break away sprint.F/T 0-2
A good win for the girls and onto the next round of the cup.
