U12 Girls Division 1: Killarney Athletic 3 - Ballyhar 1

U12 Girls Division 1: Killarney Athletic 3 - Ballyhar 1

In a very even game, played in the driving rain, our girls were desperately unlucky to come up short.

Following a few late withdrawals due to illness, Ballyhar started the game with no substitutes available,  which meant the girls had a lot of ground to cover and no recovery time. After going 1-0 down to a soft goal, in which the conditions played a big part, with the wet ball proving too slippy for our captain and keeper Aoibhinn Daly. The girls fought back to level the game when a long throw from Anna Fitzgerald put Lucy Wynne through on goal to slot the ball home in the corner. But the girls went behind for a second time, after the wet ball found its way into the Ballyhar net again. Emma O'Callaghan, Mollie O'Connor, Niamh O'Sullivan and Anna Kate Daly worked relentlessly in midfield with our player of the match Faye O'Brien, Kate O'Connor and debutante Aoibhinn Pavlovic doing a great job in defence.

It was at this point that luck deserted us, and two missed penalties for Ballyhar proved decisive as we spurned our chance at victory. Athletic finished the game off when a quick kick out caught our girls up field and with the last kick of the game they scored their third.

It was an even game, played in good spirits but terrible weather. Thanks to Killarney Athletic for a good game.
