A closely contested game as expected in the rain saw these two rivals slug it out in a tight affair.
Ballyhar had alot if the early ball and Jack Sheehy had a couple of fine chances that weren't far off opening the scoring against a packed LB defence. Ballyhar had several marginal offsides and a couple of chances that weren't far off the mark. The Ballyhar midfield of Jack Cooper, Bryan Evans, and Fabien Mrotek were busy carving through the LB midfield trying to release Sean Evans up front. LB were mainly counter attacking and soaking up the pressure and indeed they attacked and got a penalty near the end of the first half, Gavin Sheehan stood up well and dived low to make the first of a few fine saves to keep things scoreless at the break. H/T 0-0
The second half Ballyhar looked more settled, Paddy Hurley and Dermot Nealon halting LB when they came forward. Not long after half time Jack Cooper ran on and played a through ball to Jack Sheehy who rifled the ball into the back of LB Rovers net beyond the diving keeper and give Ballyhar a deserved 1-0 lead.
LB still put it up to Ballyhar and increased the pressure opening things up,some fine defending by Cole Buckley and in Midfield Micheál Griffin was kept busy. Jack Cooper saw a fine effort just go over the LB bar which but for the breeze would have added a second goal. Dylan O'Sullivan was introduced also and put in a fine shift holding LB out, but the scoring wasn't finished. Fabien Mrotek poked the ball through from midfield to Tiernan Scanlon who latched onto it making a fine run down the left and hammering in number two for Ballyhar and putting some daylight between the two teams in this tight affair. LB Rovers attacked in the final minutes forcing a couple of corners but Ballyhars defence hung onto a well deserved clean sheet and to march on to the next round. F/T 2-0
