It was definitely a game of two halfs in the U13 Division 2 encounter as a severely depleted Ballyhar traveling to table toppers Killorglin on Saturday morning.
Killorglin drew first blood in the 5th min but Ballyhar struck back 6 mins later, when a great clearance from goal keeper Jack O'Leary found Killian O'Sullivan, whose solo run found him beating the Killorglin defence and chipping the keeper to bring the game level. More pressing from Ballyhar resulted in an Alan Mrotek free kick finding Daniel Ryan, who chipped the keeper from 18 yards to put Ballyhar 2-1 up agter 15 mins. The league leaders then piled on the pressure, with Ballyhar to their credit, repelling many attacks, but Killorglin equalised on the 27min mark from a long range effort. H/T 2-2
In the 2nd half however Killorglin made excellent use of their bench, eessentially bringing on a fresh team and they capitalised on a wayward Ballyhar goal kick to pull ahead just a few minutes in to make it 3-2. The Ballyhar defence were now under sustained pressure and eventually cracked, which led to goals for Killorglin on the 43rd, 44th and 48th minute mark to put the tie beyond doubt. Killorglin were even granted a late penalty, but thankfully went wide of the post with keeper Jack O'Leary standing tall and did enough to put his man off.
A disappointing result after a great start, but in the end, Killorglin really had the difference makers off the bench. Best on the day for Ballyhar were Jack O Leary, Killian O Sullivan and Alan Mrotek. Special thanks to Emma O Callaghan who came up from the U12 girls to help us out today in the lions den.
