On a dew covered pitch in Ballyhar, our u13 B team hosted a strong Mastetgeeha A team.
Ballyhar had the better of the early stages however failed to create any real opportunities. Rueben O'Leary Griffin and Elliot Lyne caused problems for the visitors as they pushed forward. With Liam Smyth and Euan Costelloe working hard in midfield Ballyhar were dominating possession. However, things took a turn after 15 mins when a shot from the edge if the box wasn’t closed down and ended up in the bottom corner of the Ballyhar net. This inspired the Mastergeeha boys who pressed home their advantage and by 25 mins were 3-0 up. The back four for Ballyhar were now under continuous pressure with both full backs Diarmuid FitzGerald and Lachlan Leslie holding their own and repelling repeated raids on the flanks. The centre back pairing of Ewan Myers and captain on the day Ollie Kirwin were also holding things together and clearing their lines. Just before half time Tommy Flatherty and Daniel Leslie ( making his debut) came in from the bench to energise the attack and this was a boost for Ballyhar. Keeper Evan Greensmyth kept Ballyhar in the game with several saves and a great catch from a dangerous in-swinging corner. At this stage half time couldn’t come quick enough for Ballyhar. H/T 0-3
Once again Ballyhar started strong and Rian Comerford who was excellent on the day was winning possession and laying some very clever ball off to the pacy Tomás Bolger. It was was a cross by Comerford who set up Liam Smyth for the Ballyhar goal with Smyth finding the top corner from just inside the box.
Ballyhar continued to push but were finding it very difficult to break down the Mastergeeha defence. The final nail was hammered home with the visitors scored from a corner with just 5 mins remaining. A sporting game that finished 1-4 to the visiting team.
Best on the day Reuben O'Leary, Lachlan Leslie, Euan Costelloe and Rian Comerford
