Our National Cup campaign continued today at Murt Scott Park against a solid Clare side.
Ballyhar settled best in the opening exchanges and it wasn't long before they were rewarded when Diarmuid Casey fired from the edge of the box which found the far corner on 5min 1-0. Ballyhar created a number of half chances after this but failed to capitalise. Gearoid Moynihan had a free kick which looked destined for the top corner only for a magnificent save from the Bridge keeper.
The visitors started growing into the game, moving the ball around the park and causing trouble down the wings but the Ballyhar defence held out. 2 min before the break Ryan Vickers broke down the left, crossed into the box which was turned into the net by the Bridge defender.
Ht 2-0
Ballyhar started the 2nd half the brightest but 7 min in a Bridge player was brought down in the box for a penalty which was executed to perfection giving the Ballyhar keeper no chance. 2-1. A poor clearance from the Ballyhar backline allowed a strike from outside the box which found the net on (48) 2-2.
The character of this Ballyhar side was now to be tested and they responded 8 min from time when the ball broke down the left and Ryan Vickers raced to beat the oncoming keeper and slot home 3-2. Ballyhar hung on for the victory.
Man of the Match Gearoid Moynihan.
Ballyhar now march on to the last 24 of the South West Region of National Cup.
