Our U13 side had their first experience of the National Cup on Saturday hosting BT Harps at Murt Scott Park.
Both sides settled well and it was BT Harps who went closest in the opening stages, when they saw an effort come off the Ballyhar crossbar and cleared. BT Harps produced excellent passing moves, however the Ballyhar defence remained solid and after 14 mins the home team made the breakthrough after an excellent cross from the left by Ryan Vickers was finished home by Jack Kelly. The goal appeared to settle the home team and they went 2 up after more good work by Ryan Vickers who found Diarmuid Casey in the box to finish well. Ballyhar were now in the ascendancy and 2 further excellent finishes by Ryan Vickers left the scoreline 4:0 going in at half time.
To their credit BT Harps played some excellent football in the 2nd half, however Daniel Duggan in the Ballyhar goals was in exceptional form making a number of good saves. Ballyhar extended their lead further with strikes from Diarmuid Casey and Ryan Quilter putting Ballyhar 6:0 up. Late on Daniel Duggan was eventually beaten as BT Harps got a breakaway goal to complete the scoring on the day.
On a day when all the team members played excellent, special mention has to go to Ryan Vickers and today's MOM and captain Daniel Duggan. Thanks to B. T. Harps for a very sporting game and we wish them well in the season ahead.
