Our U14 A's hosted Inter Kenmare on Saturday in the 1st round of the Tom Hayes Cup.
It was Kenmare who settled better into the game, going 1:0 up after 10 minutes after a well worked goal down the right. Ballyhar soon settled into the game and started to dominate possession. They were rewarded when Addy Nolan finished well to get the equaliser. A number of minutes later, Ballyhar went into the lead when Ryan Quilter put in an excellent corner, which was headed home by Dàire Cornally. Ryan Vickers, who was threatening all the game, made it 3 before the break. H/T 3-1
Inter Kenmare again started the 2nd half well, pushing on to try chase the next goal. They constantly remained a threat and only for excellent work by the Ballyhar defence and Daniel Duggan in goal who repelled all Kenmare attacks. The next score was crucial, and it was Ballyhar who would get it. An excellent cross again put in by Ryan Vickers was met by Ryan Quilter, who headed home from close range. A further goal by Jamie Murphy gave Ballyhar some breathing space but Kenmare never gave up and were rewarded with a well worked goal, before Sean O'Leary Griffin restored Ballyhars' advantage to finish off the scoring on the day. F/T 6-2
This was an excellent team performance by all the squad. It was hard to pick out any individual man of match, but on the day Daniel Duggan in goals is selected. He marshalled the back four in front of him well, and along with his distribution and two excellent saves at crucial points in the game, he was brilliant throughout.
Thanks to the ref and Inter Kenmare for a sporting game.
