U14 Div 1: Ballyhar 6 - 2 LB Rovers

Our U14’s got their campaign off to a strong start at Murt Scott Park on Tuesday evening when they hosted LB Rovers. Ballyhar started well and put pressure on the visitors right from the off with strong play from Jack O’Connor and Padraig O’Sullivan in the middle of the park setting up a few chances. Following a few early warnings, the opening goal arrived after 11 mins when Aaron Moriarty managed to spin and shoot into the bottom right corner. Ballyhar had a few close efforts after that but failed to increase their lead until just before half-time when the ever lively Daniel Downes managed to find the net to give the home side a 2 goal cushion. H/T 2-0.

The 2nd half started the way the first finished Moriarty doubling his tally after just 3 mins to extend Ballyhars lead. LB Rovers fought hard throughout the game and knew they had to make the most of the chances they got against a strong Ballyhar back 4. And just 7 mins into the 2nd half they broke well down the Ballyhar left and found the bottom corner for their 1st goal of the season. Ballyhar didn’t falter though and asserted control of game again with some nice play ending up at the feet of Moriarty again who got his 3rd of the game and Ballyhars 4th on 46mins. Conor Edwards, who had worked tirelessly all night down the Ballyhar left, got his well deserved goal on 51 with Daniel Downes scoring his 2nd on 57 mins to make it 6-1 to Ballyhar. LB Rovers never dropped their heads and scored from a fantastic consolation strike from outside box that nestled in top corner in the final minutes.

A good start for our U14’s with all the squad playing their part in a outstanding team effort.
