Our U14's were in the hunt for the Division 1 Title on the final day of the season, but just lost out to their opponents and eventual champions Inter Kenmare on the road.
Ballyhar started the game well and even scored a goal 10 mins in, but the ref judged that Daniel Downes was just off side and struck it off. After that, Kenmare grew into game and didn’t give Ballyhar many more clear cut chances. The Ballyhar defence, that was one of their strongest assets throughout the season, did well to limit Kenmare until 10 mins before halftime, when a corner was swung into the box and met by a Kenmare head, with the ball flying into the roof of the net to give the home side the lead. H/T 1-0.
Ballyhar needed to throw caution to the wind in this Title decider, and really went for it in the 2nd half. But Kenmare didn’t buckle, as they defended their box superbly and kept Ballyhar from finding that all important equaliser. It was a tough end to a fine season for the lads and their coaches, who had previously gone on a 10 game unbeaten run, only to lose steam at the very end and finish runners up to a good Kenmare side who were crowned champions as a result.
There is no shame in 2nd place for this group of lads, who fought hard and played very well all season. As a team they were magnificent and always tried their hearts out for which their coaches and parents were very proud of. Well done to all the lads that played with the U14's over the season and thanks to their Coaches - Danny Cronin and Dan Quilter. Thanks also to the lads shirt sponsors - Moynihan Expert Hardwear.
