U14 Premier: Ballyhar Dynamos 3 Killarney Celtic 1

Our U14s got their season off to a great start on Tuesday evening, played at a sunny and immaculate looking Murt Scott Park.

Ballyhar got off to a shaky start and went behind after just 2 minutes, when a long ball from their keeper found its way into the Ballyhar box and was calmy finished by their oncoming striker. A tightly contested period followed with both sides creating chances, but both defences held firm. Then on 31 minutes a mistake from the Celtic keeper fell to Ryan Quilter who made it 1-1 4 mins before halftime. H/T 1-1

Ballyhar came out of the blocks quickly in the 2nd half and began to take the game to Celtic. With just 6 minutes gone Ryan Vickers escaped down the left and whipped one to the back post for the incoming Jack Kelly to make it 2-1. Celtic continued to float long balls into their lightning fast forwards but the Ballyhar back 4 of Adam Fleming, Daire Cornally, Gearoid Moynihan & Callum Templeman were resolute.

Both teams pushed for the all important next goal over the next 25 mins with both keepers called into action. But with 6 minutes left Ballyhar got the cushion they were looking for, when substitute Diarmuid Casey broke down the right hand side and slipped the ball around the oncoming keeper for Vickers to tap it into the empty net to make it 3-1. Celtic pressed for the remainder of the game but the work rate and determination of the whole Ballyhar squad was immense.

A great all around effort from the full squad with Ryan Quilter just edging Man of the Match. Thanks to Celtic for a sporting game and also referee Adrian Quirke.
