A bright crisp morning saw Ballyhar welcome a Castleisland team to Murt Scott Park yesterday morning with the visiting team looking to upset Ballyhars recent good form.
Castleisland with a game in hand were looking for all three points and looked set to achieve that target when in the opening minutes a loose ball not dealt with properly, led to a fine shot from their centre forward to find the back of the Ballyhar net. 0-1 Ballyhar domininated the rest of the half with a strong Castleisland defence rebuffing Ballyhar attacks time and again to keep the visitors ahead at the short whistle. H/T 0-1
Coming out in the second half Ballyhar made use of their bench with Oran lesley slotting in to left back and allowing Shane Edwards to move forward into midfield with the hard working Daithi Allen moving from midfield into right back. Ballyhar pushed from the off with sustained pressure resulting in a excellent delivered corner kick from Fionn Clifford, the resulting clearance found Daitihi Allen on the ball unmarked whose fine shot from well outside the box, beat the Castleisland keeper. 1-1 Ballyhar kept the pressure on with fine efforts from Patrick O'Connor and Noah Goodman, who narrowly missed giving Ballyhar the lead they deserved. Daniel Ryan springing from the bench highlighted the tiredness of the visiting teams big centre backs with his probing runs causing havoc. Ballyhar defenders Oran Lesley, Fionn Clifford, Nico Nuemann and Daiti Allan held firm with Luke Bartlett and Alan Mrotek holding well in the middle of the park. Nathan O'Brien came on with 10 mins to go, making good use of his strength and ball control. He was playing his first game as striker and created a number of chances. Then 6 minutes from the end, O!Brien got a fine ball, turned his man and struck a powerful shot that the Castleisland keeper could not handle, and ended up inthe net. 2-1Ballyhar.
That's the way it finished, after a big squad effort, with all 17 players making a massive contribution, too hard to pick a MOTM , but best on the day were Luke Bartlett, Daithi Allan, Oran Lesly and super sub Nathan O!Brien
