U14 Division 1: Feinit Samphires 1 - Ballyhar 1

U14 Division 1: Feinit Samphires 1 - Ballyhar 1

Our U14's put in a massive effort on Sunday afternoon, travelling to take on Feinit and getting a share of the spoils without 2 key players.

Ballyhar started the 1st half on the back foot as the home side looked to impress their bigger, more physical frames on our lads. Playing in a new formation, the lads eventually got to grips with their opponents, with Luke Bartlett, Joshua O'Sullivan and Adam Fleming trying to hold their own in the middle of the park. Charlie Curran who faced 2 center halves much bigger than himself, battled well and ran hard all game along with Daniel Ryan and Jack Duggan on the wings. It was the home side that took the lead on 15 mins when some sloppy defending by Ballyhar allowed 1 player to dribble his way into the box and curl a shot across the goals into the net. 1-0 The Ballyhar defence wouldn't give much away after that with full-backs Aaron Looney and Darragh O'Sulivan doing well with Captain Daithi Allen and Eoin Cremin shutting the door on a few more efforts by Feinit. Adam Quirke had a quiet 1st half but showed good awareness and reactions when needed and was glad to see 1 particular long range shot from Feinit curl the outside the post. H/T 1-0

Ballyhar needed to keep pushing and believing that they could get something out of the game, and they started the 2nd half well. Fleming and Bartlett were all over the midfield with Fleming threatening on a few occasions. Adam Quirke in goals had a much busier half and made a fantastic double save after palming away a free-kick first and then smothering the rebound. Fleming floated in a nice free-kick to the back post only for a wide open Eoin Cremin to just miss his connection. Feinit continued to storm forward and Ballyhar knew they would need a little bit of magic, and it came with just 10 mins to go from Jack Duggan. He picked up the ball on the right hand side taking on 2 Feinit defenders and placing his shot in to the far bottom corner for the equaliser. 1-1 It was all about composure for the last few minutes and the lads held on for a well deserved point and maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

There was so many good performances in Blue all over the field, with the lads putting in a massive effort to get a result. The defensive back five of Allen, Cremin, Looney, O'Sullivan, and Quirke were excellent. Adam Fleming was central to most of our good play at both ends of the pitch today, with Jack Duggan providing a great moment of brilliance for his goal. Charlie Curran and Daniel Ryan ran their socks off, but the tough tackling, positioning and drive of Luke Bartlett just sheds it for MOTM.

Best of luck to Feinit for the rest of the season.
