U14 Premier Division: Castleisland 0 - Ballyhar 3

U14 Premier Division: Castleisland 0 - Ballyhar 3

On crisp, bright day, our U14A team travelled to take on Castleisland.

Both teams cancelled each other out in the early stages of the game, with both defences on top. Few chances were  created for either side. Ballyhar, as the first half went on, saw a bit more possession with good work down both wings from Ryan Vickers and Diarmuid Casey. The breakthrough came on 26 mins when an excellent ball down the left from Sean Griffin O Leary found its way to Ryan Vickers, who out outpaced the Castleisland defender and finished well past the keeper.

Half time 0:1.

Castleisland came out flying in 2nd half and created a number of chances. However, the defence marshalled by Gearoid Moynihan and Daire Cornally were excellent. Ballyhar pushed on, and after 15 minutes of the  2nd half, we were rewarded with the second. Good work on left created a chance for Ryan Quilter, who's shot was saved by the Castleisland goalie only to fall to Dylan Fitzgerald, who slotted the ball home well. The insurance score came 5 minutes from time when Ryan Vickers, who was lively all afternoon, found himself in space on the edge of the Castleisland box. His shot could only be parried by the Castleisland keeper and found its way to the net. Thanks to Castleisland for a good sporting game.

Best on day for Ballyhar were Ryan Vickers, Sean GriffinO Leary, Dan Duggan in goals for his resilience and leadership, but MOM  for his excellent display was Calum Templeman.
