U16 Division 1: Ballyhar Dynamos 2 Mastergeeha B 1

U16 Division 1: Ballyhar Dynamos 2 Mastergeeha B 1

Our U16s put in a very good performance on Saturday afternoon against a tough Mastergeeha side.

The first half was a very even affair, with both teams having good periods of possession, the visitors going closest to breaking the deadlock. Ross Lally and Patrick Levy in midfield worked hard alongside Tom Costelloe, while Connor Regan and his fellow defenders did well to keep the game tied.  H/T 0-0

Ballyhar got off to a great start 5 mins after halftime, when Anthony Cremin was slipped through by a nice move and poked the ball past their keeper for the opener. 1-0 Ballyhar should have pushed on for the killer 2nd goal at this point, but instead, the visitors pushed them back. Mastergeeha piled on the pressure, and only for some good goalkeeping and defending, Ballyhar just managed to keep their noses in front. Their pressure did eventuallypay off with 15 mins left, as Mastergeeha got an equaliser. A long ball down the left-hand side was chased down by their striker, who was busy all game, and from a tight angle struck a shot that beat O'Mahony in goals at his front post. The Ballyhar bench would have a massive say in the end result though, with the lively Eoghan O'Sullivan and Lee Cirillo making an impact and giving a bit more energy to our hard working midfield. Cremin was a constant threat down the right, and with 8 mins left, he went on another mazy run, pulled the ball back to Davin Quilter, whose shot was creeping into the far corner, only for the keeper to make a diving save. But he could only parry the shot to the waiting Cirillo, who happily rifled it to the net. It was a nervy finish to the game, with Mastergeeha winning 2 corners and a free kick before the final whistle was blown. F/T 2-1

Best for Ballyhar were Ross Lally, Marcus Clifford, Conor Regan and MOTM Anthony Cremin.
