With just the bare 11 players, a tough 10 min spell at the start of the 2nd half undid all the good work our U15s did and ultimately led to defeat against a good Iveragh side on Saturday.
Ballyhar got off to an ideal start when Cillian Slattery was set loose with a good ball over the Iveragh defence and finished well for the early lead. The visitors had an exceptional weapon of their own, with their No.7 levelling the game at 1-1 with a similar goal over the top following a warning run just a few minutes previous. His 2nd goal was outstanding, as he collected the ball on the left, rounded 4 players with good skill, and finished past the keeper. The teams were fairly evenly matched, and with both sides battling hard, it was only right that they went in even at the break. The equaliser came when Slattery tucked away a penalty after he was pulled down in the box following a great run of his own. H/T 0-0
The 2nd half could not have started any worse for Ballyhar with 3 bad goals given away in the space of just 5 mins. Losing the ball in a dangerous area, a bad kick out, a Penalty and another soft goal gave the visitors total control of the game. Daniel Gleeson did well to score a well taken goal to bring it back to 5-3 before Iveragh scored 3 more goals to finish off the scoring.
A tough result against a strong talented Iveragh side, that didn't reflect the true capabilities of our lads. Best for Ballyhar were Daniel Gleeson, Jamie Quirke & Cillian Slattery.
