It was an early start in Murt Scott Park this morning as we battled for our first points of the season.
Ballyhar were quick out of the blocks and raced into a 2 goal lead within the opening 5 min. First goal, a shot from Odhran Lesley parried by the keeper for the incoming Daniel Ryan and the second excellent work by Killian O Sullivan down the right, finding Lesley in the box and he rattled the roof of the net. Camp grew into the game creating a few half chances but our keeper Alex Kelly and his back 4 of Eoin Cremin, Nico Neuman, Fionn Clifford & Cian Lynch remained resolute. The away side got off the mark in quick succession, with 2 counter attacks to level the game up. 5min left in the half and Luke Bartlett with great vision, picking a perfect ball over the top finding Killian O Sullivan through on goal and he calmly finishing passed the advancing keeper. The scoring for the first half didn't finish there as on the stroke of half time Camp broke down the right, finding their striker who levelled in up at 3-3 HT.
Ballyhar started the second half like they did the first, attacking down both flanks with Aaron Looney and Darragh O Sullivan to the fore. It wasn't long before our lead was restored, Killian O Sullivan finding Dan Ryan in the box who expertly finished 4:3. A couple of minutes later Dan Ryan playing with confidence backed himself from outside the box and finding the top corner to round off his hattrick 5-3. Ballyhar under the cuff for the remainder of the game defended Camps wave of attacks. Eoin Cremin with clearance after clearance was instrumental in keeping our 2 goal lead. Camp pulled one back with 5 minutes remaining to make it 5:4 and a nail biting end. They had a chance on the stroke of full time to level it up only for our keeper Alex Kelly making a point blank save to hold out.
Great performance by the lads today, who haven't had the rub of the green so far this season but their determination and resilience brought them their first 3 points of the season which they thoroughly deserved.
Several excellent performances today but M.O.M goes to Eoin Cremin for his outstanding defensive display today.
