On a wet afternoon at Murt Scott Park, our U14s dug out a hard fought win against a tough LB Rovers side.
After a sloppy start, LB looked the more dangerous side in possession, but if there is one thing this Ballyhar side does well, it's defend. Led by another great performance by captain Daithi Allen, with great help from Eoin Cremin, Aaron Looney, and Darragh O'Sullivan, the lads limited LB to a few crosses from corners. Luke Bartlett and Adam Fleming worked hard in the middle of the park while Ruben O'Leary Griffin and Daniel Ryan always looked to stretch them down the wings. While LB may have had more possession, Ballyhar had the better chances, with a few balls over the top proving dangerous with Charlie Curran and Killian O'Sullivan both trying to get on the end of them. And it was a fantastic ball from deep, over the top by Fleming, that unlocked the visitors defence, with the excellent Daniel Ryan getting on the end of it and instinctively hitting it over the oncoming keeper from just outside the box on 20mins. That 1-0 lead was held onto until the short whistle. H/T 1-0
Ballyhar came out for the 2nd half determined to improve and hopefully extend their lead, but LB continued to prove difficult. O'Sullivan began to make a few great runs down the right with O'Leary Griffin also very industrious up and down the left wing, and also putting in a great performance. Curran was moved out right and played a key role in the defining moment of the game. With LB really putting it up to us, a 2nd goal was needed, and when Curran helped set up Ryan 15 mins into the 2nd half, he again brilliantly blasted the ball into the roof of the net for the all-important 2nd goal. LB fought hard and never gave up, but the Ballyhar defence stood firm and held on for the win. FT 2-0
Great credit must go to all the lads who fought hard all game against a tough & talented LB side.
Best for Ballyhar were Daithi Allen, Ruben O'Leary Griffin, Adam Fleming and MOTM Daniel Ryan.
Great credit must also be given to LB Rovers, who had a player playing today, despite his Father passing away during the week. We all wish to pass on our condolences to him and his family. May he rest in peace.
