Our U16s put in a good away performance against Iveragh on Saturday afternoon and were disappointed to have to share the points.
Considering the reverse fixture earlier in the season was a 6-3 defeat, our keeper and defence were not going to give up chances easily this time around, with Conor Giles doing an outstanding job on their very dangerous striker and the ever dependable Marcus Clifford covering a massive amount of ground. Eoin O'Mahony in goals, made some vital saves, with Conrad Long, Conor Regan, and Jamie Fleming all worked hard in front of him. Anthony Cremin and Jim O'Dowd were industrious all game for Ballyhar with O'Dowd, the one to break the deadlock on 17 mins with a fine strike just inside the box. Ballyhar failed to increase their lead with the side netting hit more than the target on the few occasions they had w shot on goal. H/T 0-1
Iveragh had looked threatening before the break and picked up where they left off with the breeze at their backs, putting the Ballyhar defence under more pressure. The lads held firm for the most part and then even had a great chance to increase their lead, when substitute Patrick Levy latched onto a long ball and dribbled his way into the box, he flicked it around the Iveragh keeper who made contact with him as he went for it, but Levy's honesty & determination, prevented him from going to ground for what would have been a clear penalty and the Iveragh cavalry arrived to snuff out the chance. With time running outout, long balls reigned down on our defence as Iveragh pushed for an equalizer. And when the ball was let hit the ground on 65mins, it bounced favourably for Iveraghs danger man who had wriggled lose for once and rifled a shot past O'Mahony. 1-1 It was a tense final 10 mins as both teams tried to win it, but in the end the spoils were shared. F/T 1-1
Best for Ballyhar were Anthony Cremin, Conrad Long, Marcus Clifford and MOTM Conor Giles.
