Our seniors advanced to the last 8 of the reserve cup after a deserved but hard earned 3-1 home win over Castleisland B on Sunday.
Ballyhar had the majority of the 1st half possession with Mike Daly & Patrick O'Connor going close to breaking the deadlock. Niall Donohoe & Mike O'Sullivan were very influential around the centre of the park. Early in the second half, it was Niall whose clever cross set up Shane O'Sullivan for a fine finish to the corner of the net. 1-0
On 60 minutes Ger Fitzgerald made it 2-0 with a fine 18 yard shot after good approach work by John Power. Castleisland pulled a well worked goal back on 80 minutes to make it an interesting last quarter of an hour. With time almost up & the visitors pushing on for an equaliser it was Robert Kelly who spotted the castleisland keeper off his line, and from the half way line executed a majestic chip over the keeper in a fine individual strike to seal the win for Ballyhar. F/T 3-1
Overall, it was a good win with all 14 contributing with a solid back five of Trevor O'Shea, John Power, Dan O'Shea, Danny Cronin & Ger Fitzgerald in fine form.
