Our U12's got their season off to a winning start on Tuesday evening with a convincing win over Mastergeeha.
The home side burst out of the blocks and scored an early goal after just 3 mins when Alex Finn rose highest to meet a great corner from Patrick O'Connor and found the back of the net. Ballyhar pushed for a 2nd but found the Mastergeeha keeper hard to beat with shots from Killian O'Sullivan, Adam Fleming, Finn & O'Connor all failing to beat the keeper. Mastergeeha continued to frustrate the home side and were always threatening on the counter. And only for a great last ditch tackle from Daithi Allen, they could have easily evened things up at the break.
H/T 1-0
With Fionn Clifford, Callum Templeman and Allen at the back Ballyhar looked solid throughout with good support from Luke Bartlett in Midfield but a 2nd goal was needed to settle the nerves. It finally came when substitute Daniel Ryan came in at the back post to convert another cross from O'Connor. The 3rd goal was a good team goal, working the ball through midfield and down the left hand side with Alex Finn applying a close range finish to give them a 3 goal cushion.
The 4th came when Mastergeeha were dispossessed in midfield and Fleming played a fantastic ball to the marauding Templeman who glided through the defence and slotted it into the bottom left. Mastergeeha got a deserved goal in the dying minutes after some good play down the middle. But the 3 points went to the home side after a good opening performance.
Best for Ballhar were Luke Bartlett, Adam Fleming, Callum Templeman and MOTM Fionn Clifford who played fantastic under difficult circumstances.
