Our U12s moved 1 step closer to winning the Division 1 title with a convincing win away to Listowel Celtic.
Right from the start, Ballyhar took full advantage of the larger the normal pitch, with Cillian O'Sullivan and Daithi Allen using their pace to great effect down the wings, with Charlie Curran and Daniel Ryan working the line up front. It was Allen who hit the net first following some nice link up play down the right. He then turned provider for Ballyhar's 2nd, when his fine run and cross was smashed home by Daniel Ryan to make it 2-0. Listowel battled hard but didn't have an answer for the Ballyhar pressure despite numerous changes off the Ballyhar bench. H/T 2-0
Listowel showed more purpose in the 2nd half and threatened on the counter attack as Ballyhar pushed forward for more goals. Ballyhar always seemed to find an extra gear, and after a few gilt edged chances went a begging, it was Callum Templeman who found the net next after more good passing from Ballyhar. Alex Finn was pulling the strings up top and set up Charlie Curran for a well-deserved 4th goal before hitting the net himself 5 mins later to make it 5-0 to Ballyhar. Then Listowel struck with 2 quick goals, catching out our defence and substitute goalkeeper in quick succession in the final minutes. But the final strike went to Ballyhar in the dying seconds of the game, when Templeman hit an audacious shot from the left that sailed over the Listowel keeper into the net.
It was a complete performance by all the lads with the whole squad playing for each other and using the ball well. Now with their unbeaten record still intact and sitting on top of Division 1, Ballyhar know heading into their final game away to Dingle that the league title is within their grasp.
Credit also to the Listowel Celtic boys, who showed great heart and determination in a sporting contest.
