U13 Division 2: Castleisland B 2 - Ballyhar B 5

U13 Division 2: Castleisland B 2 - Ballyhar B 5

On a frosty morning in Castleisland, the 9.30 KO time was not ideal for our U13 B team but both teams started brightly.

The home team opened the scoring on 5 mins when their very impressive no 10 out paced the Ballyhar defence and finished well. Ballyhar responded on 9 min when the impressive Rian Comerford set up Jack Cooper who in turn slotted Jack Sheehy in on goal for the left footer to find the net. A very smooth move from the Ballyhar team to make it 1-1.
Tadgh Fitzgerald had a great chance to gain the lead, after a shot that who would have found the top corner only for the Castleisland keeper to parry his volley over the bar. He had another shot hit the side netting and one more just outside the post. The home team we gaining confidence and Ballyhar were grateful for good saves from Evan Greensmyth and solid defending by Ewan Myers keeping them at bay. With the very dangerous no.10 pushing forward, Ballyhar had to call on Paddy Hurley to keep him quiet and he rose to the challenge. H/T 1-1

The coaching team gave the boys some guidance at half time and the lads took it all on board blitzing the Castleisland team in the first 7 minutes of the second half .
On 32 mins Captain Elliot Lyne played in Jack Sheehy whose shot was saved but Rian Comerford was on hand to make sure of the rebound. 3 mins later Tadhg Fitzgerald followed in on a long range shot from Bryan Evans and forced the keeper to fumble and Jack Cooper buried the ball to the back of the net to make it 3-1 Ballyhar. Then on 37 Jack Sheehy crossed for Jack Cooper who made it 4-1.
The Ballyhar defence then had to withstand the pressure with the ever improving full backs, Lachlan Leslie and Diarmuid Fitzgerald, repelling all attacks.
Castleisland did get a 2nd goal on 44 mins to make it 2-4.
But Ollie Kirwan, Ciaran Ferris and Tiernan Scanlan, who was making his return from a Long term injury, came on to help ease the pressure and helped set up Brian Evans who put Tadhg Fitzgerald through to put the game to rest at 5-2.

A great performance from the boys in straight and intense game.
