The home side started the brightest and enjoyed good spells of possession. They opened the scoring 15 min in from a shot outside the box finding the bottom corner. Ballyhar to their credit had their own strong spell of possession after this and nearly equalised when Ryan Quilter spotted the keeper off his line, he chipped the keeper from distance, striking the crossbar. The follow up fell to the incoming Jack Kelly who couldn't keep his effort down from close range. Villa then added to their lead just before halftime from a set piece. H/T 2-0
The next goal was always going to be a crucial one and again it fell to the home side. A long range free was spilled and the incoming striker was fastest to react 3-0. The Ballyhar backline of Adam Fleming, Daire Cornally, Eoin Casey & Brendàn Allman were constantly tested by the razor sharp attacking trio of the home side. With Ballyhar pushing and committing players forward, there was always going to be gaps and the home side rounded off the scoring 5 min from time. 4-0 FT
A great Cup run by this Ballyhar side came to an end today but they can keep their heads held high with some impressive performances along the way.
Thanks to Villa FC for a sporting game and their hospitality after. We wish them well for the remainder of the season.
Best for Ballyhar on the day : Adam Fleming
