It was an 8 goal thriller on Saturday morning as our U13's shared the spoils with Listowel Celtic. In a highly entertaining match, Ballyhar started the stronger taking the lead in the 5th minute, when Sean O'Leary Griffin found Addy Nolan on the left, who hit a great strike off the inside of the far post and in. The work rate from the Ballyhar midfield of Nolan, Edwards, Kelly & Fitzgerald was excellentand provided a great battle in the middle of the park. Listowel grew into the game in the final 10 mins of the 1st half and brought the sides level when the ball dropped nicely for the home side to finish. A twist before halftime when against the run of play, Jack Kelly found Ryan Quilter, who beat his man to finish well on 28 min. HT 1-2 The second half saw the introduction of Ryan Vickers and Diarmuid Casey and on 35 minutes Ballyhar increased their lead, when Quilter rounded his man in the box but was brought down for a penalty! Quilter stepped up, and calmy finished it past the keeper to restore a 2 goal lead. Listowel made a few positional changes and started to enjoy a good spell, but the Ballyhar backline of Adam Fleming, Daire Cornally, Jamie O'Brien & Daithi Allen defended well. But then on 45mins, Listowel won a corner which wasn't dealt with, and was struck to the Ballyhar net to make it 2-3. A few mins later, Ballyhar broke down the right with Casey finding Ogie who gave a great delivery to the back post, where Vickers found space to make it 2-4 on 50 min. Listowel were dangerous down both flanks all afternoon, and with less than 15 mins left, the ref awarded them a penalty after an apparent foul by a Ballyhar defender, which was converted well to make it 3-4. Daniel Duggan in goal, pulled off a great save from a Listowel long-range free kick as Ballyhar were now hanging on. Listowel smelled blood and pushed on with purpose in the closing minutes. Then on 58 mins, Listowel were awarded a free kick on the halfway line. A lapse in concentration in the Ballyhar backline allowed a through ball down the right, which the Listowel No.10 latched onto and hit an exceptional finish to tie the game at 4-4 FT. Man of the Match goes to Daithi Allen, who on his debut with this Premier team was rock solid throughout. We wish this Listowel Celtic side all the best in their upcoming National Cup Quarter Final clash.
