On a crisp morning in Murt Scott Park, Ballyhar hosted Killarney Celtic in Div 2 of the U14 League.
This was an extremely competitive game, with Ballyhar going into the lead halfway through the 1st half. A ball over the top of Celtics defence by Nicolas Newmann found its way to Luke Bartlett, who finished well to the Celtic net. Killarney Celtic pushed on in an effort to get an equaliser, generating a number of chances and corners. The Ballyhar defence stood firm with Noah Browne in goal, commanding his area, and the defence well marshalled with Fionn Clifford, Odhran Leslie, and Daithi Allen all excelling. H/T 1-0
A number of minutes into the second half Celtic made a couple of changes from the bench, and this had an immediate impact. A player introduced blocked down a ball out of the Ballyhar defence, and he finished with a crisp shot to the Ballyhar net. Game on. But it was Ballyhar who were to strike next when Peter O'Callaghan earned a free approximately 35 yards out from the Celtic goal. Alan Mrotek, who was to the fore all morning, struck a pinpoint shot into the top left corner of the Celtic net. Celtic pushed again for the equaliser and created a number of excellent chances. A mixture of spurned opportunities and excellent goalkeeping kept them at bay. Late on excellent work down the left by Patrick O'Connor resulted in a free to Ballyhar. Patrick took the free, and his shot beat the Cetic keeper and found the top of the Celtic net. F/T 3-1
Best on the day for Ballyhar were Daithi Allen, Nicolas Newmann, Patrick O'Connor and Man of the Match Alan Mrotek. Thanks to Killarney Celtic for a sporting game and best of luck for the rest of the season.
