Ballyhar go through 5:3 on penalties after extratime.
In the first round of National Cup, Ballyhar Dynamos travelled to Fairview Rangers in Limerick City. The game was played in very trying conditions throughout, and it was Ballyhar who, playing into the wind and rain in the 1st half, who went into the lead. A long range free kick fired into the opposition box by Ryan Quilter managed to find its way to the back of the Fairview net. Ballyhar went in at halftime 1:0 up.
Playing with the advantage of the breeze in the 2nd half, it was hoped Ballyhar would push on, however, it was Fairview who started to come more into the game. They got back on level terms halfway through the second half. Again it was from a free kick, from just outside the Ballyhar box, which was finished well to the net. As the conditions deteriorated further, the game went into extra time. However, neither side could find a winner. F/T 1-1 AET
As both teams faced the dreaded penalties it was Daniel Duggan in goals who, with an excellent save during the shootout, that was the difference. Massive credit to the 5 excellent pennos finished by Eoin Casey, Dylan Fitzgerald, Jamie Murphy, and the two Ryan's Quilter & Vickers. Penalties 3-5 to Ballyhar
All the panel played their part in digging out the result on the day, with the following to the fore for Ballyhar - Jack Kelly, Alan Mrotek, Jamie Murphy and Ryan Quilter. However, for his excellent performance throughout, man of match goes to Daniel Duggan in goals.
Thanks to Fairview Rangers for the sporting game and the hospitality afterwards, which was exceptional. Good luck for the season ahead. Also, thanks to our ever dependent Johhny O'Meara for transporting the team on the day.
